THIS IS NOW THE EARLIER DEMO VERSION - Full Game Here: https://pupbenny.itch.io/smile-factory

Horror game where you must escape from an evil factory that builds sinister machines.

Oddworld: Smile Factory is a first-person horror fan game set in the universe created by Oddworld Inhabitants and it's founders Lorne Lanning and Sherry McKenna. Smile Factory intends to tell lore of Oddworld and let players experience it's sinister world in a way that hasn't been done before.

This has been made simply as an educational project to learn Unreal Engine with. Basically taking Oddworld and bits of Oddworld, the story of this epic franchise to make a fangame out of it that's hopefully completely different and a new kind of Oddworld experience. Please do play Oddworld: Soulstorm and other actual Oddworld games before this to experience the Oddworld universe in it's true form.

The game is really good and it runs pretty decent on my potato although having motion blur and some surfaces unnecessarily reflective makes it run slower on worse machines just an option to turn it off would be nice but other than that really good 9/10

Thank you, that's really good to know, I'm glad it runs decently! :) That's a really good idea about having an option to reduce reflective surfaces, I've never thought about that or the impact that has before, so that's definitely something I should keep in mind (if not for this project then future ones at least). Thank you! :)

Insanely good game almost pooped my pants in the parts and service section All i have to say is at some point during the  first "trial" lets say in the zig zag room with the mines you can simply walk on the edges and completely avoid jumping over them. Other than that it was incredible (you should also add easter eggs)

Ah thank you for letting me know about this! I'm writing a list of minor things I need to fix and I didn't know about this one, so thank you for finding that! And thank you for your kind words, I'm really glad you enjoyed! :)

Really good fangame, I love the bit of lore scattered everywhere and the posters (the stitched lips are my favorite). The addition of AI generated pictures to represent the concept arts of the Greeter is a good thing, it's kinda scary when you see it after a corner. The horror parts are really well made too, caught me off guard.

My only criticism is the first part of the game have really bland textures for the walls and floor, except for the office room with white and purple tiles as seen in the screenshot, but it get better with the 2nd part.

Looking forward for your futur games, it's a really good start.

Ps: thanks for putting stripped steps before the holes in the dark area, it helps a lot !

Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it

I really appreciate the criticism, it's definitely stuff that I should learn more about and improve on for future projects, so thank you for letting me know your thoughts on it! :)

I'm so happy to find a fangame on Oddworld ! I would recommand it, a 10 out of 10 taking the fact it was a "test" for Unreal Engine. You made a very good job with light effects, specialy with the Part and Service rooms ! I just found 1 bug, when a robot stop following you, he will reset. But if he collides with an other robot, they will both stop moving (I think it's just a collision problem but I don't use Unreal Engine so you know more than me lol). You can be proud of you it's a great game. :)

Thank you very much, I appreciate you saying this! I hope to improve but I'm really glad you enjoyed it, thank you very much for playing it! :)

Had a lot of fun playing this game! The robots got a bit annoying in some parts, specially their sounds and I wasn't a fan of the platforming part, but over all it was fun, good work :)

Thank you very much! :) I hope to improve! :)

The game from what ive played is amazing, im a subscriber of yours on YT and the moment i saw the game i HAD to take a look..

I unfortunately could not play much as my computer lacks the power to handle the game even on its lowest settings. But even still i got about 40 minutes in just riding the atmosphere alone. I cant wait to see if you have any other projects like this coming along. You did an amazing job

Thank you so much I really appreciate you saying that and giving it a go! :) Sorry about your computer, hopefully in the future I'll be more experienced in making anything I do better performance-wise. But I'm really glad you enjoyed just taking in the atmosphere, that means a lot so thank you! :)

This game is awesome. I loved everything from the signs to the newspapers to the gameplay itself. Though challenging I enjoyed it.

Thank you, I really appreciate your kind words! And thank you very much for recording your gameplay, that really helps me a lot as I can see things that can be improved or things that go wrong, etc, so I really appreciate you uploading this! :) I'm really glad you liked it, thank you so much again! :)

For a "just learning Unreal" project, 9.5/10. This was amazingly well done; the tension of the puzzle/evasion sequences, the atmosphere, it was all excellent. You knocked it out of the park.
A couple minor bugs/things I feel should be brought up:
When the player looks up/down from pure horizontal, it affects player movement speed. Not normally an issue until....you try to do a sprinting precision platforming and are looking down so you eat land mines when you miss the jump.
Also, the random enemies at the last sequence before the ending with different mechanics were a little bit of an annoyance. I'd rather have had the rest of the ending skip over them, or maybe see them across a hall/through glass.
But these are minor nitpicks. This was amazingly fun, even if I didn't get any of the references having never touched the Oddworld franchise and I hope to see you keeping making games, you have a real knack for it!

Thank you a lot! I really appreciate you saying this and also for recording your play-through! That genuinely helps me improve as I can see all the glitches, etc, and learn from it so I really appreciate you doing that! Thank you again for giving it a go and I'm really glad you found it fun! :)

Love some of the comments you're making in the video! 'This game knows what it's doing' I'm glad a lot of the parts are having the intended effect. xD I really appreciate your feedback, will definitely keep the things you're pointing out in mind. :)

Loved this series as a kid, going to give this a go for sure today!

Thank you very much, I really hope you enjoy it! :)

Really Cool Experience 5/5 for sure. :)

Thank you so much for playing it and filming it, I really appreciate it! :) Sorry about the glitches that happened (I'm really impressed you managed to get the Greeter to fall down to the spare parts area, didn't even know that could happen lol), videos like this are really helpful as I will know to improve in future, so thank you. :)

I always try to glitch the game or find something strange to help out the dev. Thank you so much for such an awesome game I can't wait for more updates in future. :)))

Awesome work, and I totally realized halfway through that Oddworld was the same as Abe's Odyssey. You nailed the style of the game while adding a horror aspect to it.

Thank you so much, I appreciate you playing and filming it! It's my first game like this so I know a lot of it could be improved massively, etc, so I really appreciate you giving it a go. :)
